Processus is an art-focused, boutique South African wine collective co-founded in 2020 by curator Beata America and winemaker Megan van der Merwe. Combining their professional talents and shared lives, they frame the project not as a commercial brand, but as an ongoing creative vessel. Here, minimal-intervention winemaking acts as an artistic medium to explore concepts of “becoming” and environmental stewardship.
Megan, who is also the head winemaker and viticulturist at the prestigious Beau Constantia estate, handles the technical and farming aspects. Her dual-hemisphere experience across Paso Robles and Châteauneuf-du-Pape informs her low-intervention approach. Meanwhile, Beata’s role as an assistant curator at Zeitz MOCAA injects a conceptual art lens, treating each vintage as an ephemeral, tactile art object.
Dedicated to South Africa’s forgotten heritage, the collective champions minority grape varieties like Colombar and Fernão Pires (Maria Gomes) that are often blended away. Working out of Cape Town, they source old-vine parcels to craft textured, expressive natural wines. Lacking a public cellar, Processus engages wine lovers through intimate, collaborative sensory exhibitions at local art foundations.
