Perched high in the Bottelary Hills of Stellenbosch, Mooiplaas is a true working wine farm with deep roots dating back to 1806, purchased by Nicolaas Roos in 1963 and today managed by the Roos brothers, Tielman (viticulturist) and Louis (winemaker).
The estate extends over 243 hectares, with 100 hectares devoted to vine-growing on steep, mineral-rich slopes of Cape granite soil and 70 hectares set aside as a private reserve to protect indigenous fynbos.
Vineyard layouts take full advantage of the pronounced altitude difference—from valley meadows to high ridge positions (~370?m asl)—creating microclimates that allow precise cultivar choices for each block.
Vintage vintners follow classic, minimal-intervention winemaking: wild yeast fermentation, small oak barrel maturation, and light filtration, all in the pursuit of wines that balance authenticity, structure, elegance, and a vivid sense of terroir.
