Luddite Wines & Saluez Le Saboteur is a small, family-run boutique estate founded in 1999 by Niels and Penny Verburg on Van der Stel Pass above Bot River in the Western Cape. Their mission is singular: handcrafted, terroir-driven, and minimalist wines. Planted across about 8?ha of hillside vineyards, the estate specializes in Shiraz, Chenin Blanc, and two signature blends: Saboteur Red (Shiraz-driven with Mourvèdre and Grenache) and Saboteur White (Chenin-based blend with Viognier and Blanc Fumé).
Niels—the winemaker—and his daughter Alice oversee cellar tastings, which are often conducted personally by the family. Farming emphasizes manual methods, no irrigation, and minimal technological interference. The result is wines with concentrated flavor, expressive structure, and a strong sense of place. Luddite also offers estate-pressed olive oil and charcuterie made from their free?range livestock, adding to the authentic farm-to-bottle experience.
