Rooted in history yet thoroughly modern, Kleine Zalze spans approximately 120?ha of vineyards near Stellenbosch, initially planted in the late 1600s and revitalised in the mid-1990s under Kobus Basson’s vision.
Its rolling slopes and varied soils, positioned just 15?km from the Atlantic, benefit from cooling maritime influences that give their wines freshness, elegance, and complexity. Kleine Zalze farms its own vineyards and also sources high-quality fruit under long-term contracts, maintaining tight vineyard-to-cellar control.
Precision viticulture includes thoughtful row orientation, canopy management, and restricted yields, ensuring expressive varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Chenin Blanc, and Sauvignon Blanc. Kleine Zalze blends New World fruit intensity with Old World structure, earning top honours like “Winery of the Year” (Platter’s 2021) and multiple Veritas double-golds.
