In 1995 the Gabb family (originally from Shropshire, UK) took control of this picturesque wine farm surrounded by 20 ha of gorgeous vineyards. They have invested heavily in both the vineyards and the winery since then – with the estate growing to 120ha by July 2011.
Journey’s End Vineyards, situated on the slopes of the Schapenberg hills near Sir Lowry’s Pass in the Stellenbosch winelands, is a sustainable and ethically-driven estate owned by the Gabb family since 1995. The vineyards thrive on ancient decomposed granite soils and benefit from a unique cool microclimate shaped by the Atlantic’s “Cape Doctor” wind—conditions that lend precision, minerality, and complexity to every wine.
Winemakers Leon Esterhuizen and Mike Dawson embrace a minimal-intervention approach, with carbonic maceration, fermentation and ageing in amphorae and concrete eggs, yielding expressive Bordeaux blends, refined varietals, and elegant whites. Their notable collections include the Precision, V?Series, and Tales Range, offering award-winning highlights like Ad Infinitum, Destination Chardonnay, Cape Doctor, and The Weather Station Sauvignon Blanc.
Journey’s End is also celebrated for its social and environmental leadership: multiple-time winners of Ethical Company of the Year at the Drinks Business Green Awards, holding WWF Conservation Champion status, Fairtrade certification, and funding community outreach initiatives that have delivered over six million meals in the Helderberg region via the Journey’s End Foundation.
