Hazendal lies on historically rich land in the Bottelary Hills of Stellenbosch, originally granted in 1699 to Christoffel Hazenwinkel (“Valley of the Hares”) and first planted with vines in the 1800s by the Bosman family.
Today, under the stewardship of a family foundation since 1994, Hazendal merges Cape Dutch architectural legacy with modern, thoughtful winemaking.
The estate specializes in handcrafted boutique wines, led by rich Cabernet Sauvignon, plush Shiraz, elegant Chenin Blanc, and the estate’s refined MCC Cap Classique sparkling wines.
Their cellar practices blend tradition—aging Chenin from century-old bush vines—with modern methods and occasional wild-yeast fermentations, yielding wines of balance, character, and terroir clarity.
Driven by a mission to inspire with “thoughtful winemaking,” Hazendal pursues a 21st-century vision—supporting provenance-rich wine, stewarding historic soil, and forging identity through style and substance.
