Founded in 1997 by Alexander and Ingrid Baron von Essen on a former wheat farm, Capaia transformed previously unused soils into a premier wine estate.
Their 2003 first vintage was awarded a 5?star rating by Wine Magazine, cementing its reputation. The estate was formally recognized in 2005 under the château principle.
Ownership has since transitioned to Ingrid’s daughter, Mariella von Essen, alongside her son Nick. They partner with Comte Stephan von Neipperg, coming from a historic Bordeaux winemaking lineage.
