High on the crest of Helshoogte Pass, just 5?km from Stellenbosch, TOKARA blankets its estate across steep slopes of the Simonsberg–Banghoek watershed, between 350 and 550m above sea level. Established in 1994 by GT and Anne Marie Ferreira, it marries striking vineyard sites with avant?garde viticulture.
The estate farms diverse terroir—from deep decomposed granite to weathered Table Mountain sandstone—yielding wines distinguished by structure, fragrance, and who can age gracefully. Prime parcels around the cellar feed into its flagship Bordeaux-style reds, aromatic whites, and even traditional-method sparkling Cap Classique. It extends its brand beyond Stellenbosch, with cool climate plots in Elgin (Highlands) and Hemel and Aarde (Siberia) focused on elegant white varieties.
TOKARA blends precision technology—gravity-flow, computerized cellar operations, NDVI vineyard monitoring—with old-world gravity and hand-sorting practices. Under winemakers Miles Mossop and Stuart Botha, each wine interprets its specific vineyard parcel, shining with intensity, harmony, and a compelling sense of place.
