Dating back to 1702, Meerendal is one of the Cape’s earliest wine farms, perched on the slopes of the Tygerberg Hills in Durbanville—just 20?minutes from Cape Town. Its gently undulating terrain, enriched with fertile clay soils and kissed by cool Atlantic breezes, creates ideal conditions for cultivating cool-climate varieties and classic Bordeaux cultivars. The estate today spans over 150,000 vines, including a heritage block of Pinotage planted in 1955 and a rare row of Muscat d’Alexandrie—Cape Town’s oldest producing vineyard—offering both historical depth and living legacy. Winemaking is guided by a commitment to blending tradition with innovation. The cellar still uses original 1943 open concrete fermenters alongside modern stainless steel tanks, and the estate emphasizes minimal intervention to preserve the integrity of its old-vine fruit.
Liza Goodwin—Meerendal’s winemaker since 1998 and Durbanville’s first female cellar master—ensures each vintage captures a true sense of place, working with nature rather than against it
